HIGHLY SKILLED BRAIN AND SPINE CARE

I use minimally invasive techniques as much as possible with to minimize tissue damage, reduce pain, for quicker recovery and improve early mobility.

Most Common Conditions Treated

SPINAL CONDITIONS

N

Neck & Back Pain

These are very common conditions, caused mostly by muscular and ligamentous strain. Majority of these are best treated by non-surgical means. However, in some cases surgical treatment may be an option.

N

Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)

Over time, the discs between the vertebrae in our spine begin to lose elasticity which can result in neck or back pain. The severity of this condition and the symptoms each person experiences varies greatly with each individual. In some cases it leads to nerve compression, which can then lead to sciatica (leg pain originating from the back and going down the leg).

N

Herniated Discs

This is a painful condition where a fragment of the center of the disc breaks through the outer layer of the disc causing nerve compression. This can result in severe neck and arm pain if the disc herniation is in the neck; back and leg pain (sciatica) if the disc herniation is in the low back. Most of these resolve without surgical treatment, but in some cases surgery can be considered because of weakness, and/or lack of improvement by non-surgical treatments.

N

Cervical Stenosis and Cervical Myelopathy

This occurs when the bony canal that surrounds and protects the spinal cord and nerves in the neck begins to narrow due to bone spurs, bulging or herniated discs, joint and ligament thickening. Patients can experience pain, numbness, weakness in the arms and hands, loss of hand dexterity, loss of balance.

N

Lumbar Stenosis

This occurs when the bony canal that surrounds and protects the spinal cord and nerves in the low back begins to narrow over time due to bone spurs, bulging discs, joint and ligament thickening. Patients can experience sciatica, numbness, heaviness and weakness in the legs when they walk. Surgery can help remove the stenosis and alleviate symptoms in many of these cases.

N

Spondylolisthesis

This is where your spine loses the ability to support itself and one vertebra slips forward in relation to another. In some cases this creates spinal instability causing severe back pain, sciatica, spasms or other issues.

N

Compression Fractures

Compression fractures can occur anywhere in the spinal column and can occur due to trauma, osteoporosis or loss of bone density. The most common cause is osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. It can cause severe low back pain. A majority of these are treated without surgery. In some cases a kyphoplasty procedure is an option.

N

Degenerative Scoliosis

Scoliosis is simply the presence of an abnormal curvature in the spine. It can occur as a result of a severe degenerative process. A trained spinal surgeon can help you determine if the scoliosis is the source of your pain.

AWESOME doctor!!! I am very pleased with the care I received under him! I highly recommend him!!!

BRAIN CONDITIONS

N

Brain Tumors

Brain tumors can be benign, meaning surgery can be curative, or malignant, meaning there is a high rate of recurrence and chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy will be required to treat them. Brain tumors are most commonly the result of cancer spreading from other parts of the body, such as lung cancer spreading to the brain. Meningiomas, Gliomas, and metastatic tumors are some of the most common types of brain tumors.

N

Brain Hemorrhages

Brain hemorrhage (bleeding) can occur inside the brain or over its surface due to a variety of causes such as trauma, aneurysms, abnormal blood vessels. Depending on the cause, some of these are best treated at a tertiary care hospitals.

N

Brain Infections

Brain infections can occur from a variety of reasons. Infections such as meningitis and encephalitis are typically treated non-surgically with anti-biotics alone. In some cases there can be formation of abscesses which can cause pressure on brain, and need to be drained surgically.

N

Hydrocephalus

The brain constantly bathes itself and the spinal cord in a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid. This fluid provides protection and nutrients for the brain and spinal cord. If this fluid begins to accumulate without being properly drained, hydrocephalus can result. There are many types of hydrocephalus such as obstruction hydrocephalus, and normal pressure hydrocephalus. Neurosurgeons help to diagnosis and treat these conditions. Hydrocephalus is frequently treated with cerebrospinal fluid shunts.

N

Pseudotumor Cerebri

This is a condition where the pressure in someone’s skull and the brain is elevated for unclear reasons. It can result in headache and vision loss. Often treated with a cerebrospinal fluid shunt.
